How Skateboarding WA’s Indoor Training Facility Kept the Scene Alive During Lockdowns
Author: WA Skate Ramps Date Posted:7 September 2020
When COVID lockdowns hit and everything screeched to a halt, we knew Skateboarding WA wasn’t about to let the scene die. For years, they’ve been the backbone of the Western Australian skate scene - throwing clinics, running events, and giving skaters of all ages and skill levels a chance to push themselves. But with events cancelled and group outdoor sessions off the table, the skateboarding community was in danger of losing its momentum.
But skaters don’t quit, we adapt. When Skateboarding WA came to us with their idea to build an indoor skateboard training facility in a small warehouse, we knew we had to help them pull it off. They needed ramps, obstacles, flow, and a design that could work for everyone from wide-eyed groms to master Shredders.
We’ve been backing Skateboarding WA since the beginning, turning parking lots into pop up skate parks and helping bring their events to life with prizes & giveaways. Now, it was time to take that partnership to the next level and help them keep the good times rolling!

Skateboarding is built on connection! Pushing each other, bailing, learning, and throwing down. Without a place to skate, that energy can easily disappear. Skateboarding WA wasn’t about to let that happen, and neither were we. They needed a space where skaters could keep the wheels turning, even when it felt like the world was standing still.
The challenge? The warehouse wasn’t huge, and so every inch had to count. The design had to flow, challenge advanced skaters, and give beginners a place to learn. It had to be versatile, durable, and, most of all fun for everyone.
As always, our crew was ready to take on the challenge to design, build, and install a budget friendly park that would meet Skateboarding WA’s exact specifications and expectations. It’s what we do. From the first sketch to the final install, we were all in, fully committed to delivering the essential indoor training ground Skateboarding WA needed to keep the stoke alive through the uncertainty of 2020 and beyond.
Here’s what it involved:
- Mini Ramp Relocation: When skateparks closed earlier in 2020, we’d built and installed a 3' x12’ Extreme Outdoor Mini Ramp for Ben & Karma to skate at home. So naturally, It seemed like a no brainer to relocate and reassembled it as part of the new indoor training facility.
- Quarter Pipes for Days: At one end of the setup - our classic 4’ x 6’ Quarter Pipe paired with a custom Quarter Pipe at 750mm-high, 3.4m-wide quarter with an 800mm deck, brought flow and transition into the mix.
- Custom Quarter & Radiused Bank Ramps: The opposing end of the setup offered a massive 1.1m-high, 1.8m-wide big bank, positioned for wall rides, married with a Custom 3ft / 900mm-high x10ft / 3.0m-wide quarter Pipe and a smaller, 650mm-high radiused bank, 1.8m-wide featuring a 750mm platform to maintain flow and provide endless lines.
- Custom Ledge/Manual Pad: A portable 300mm-high, 2.4m-long ledge perfect for grinds, slides, and tech tricks.
- Split Spine Ramp: A 700mm-high, 1.8m-wide spine that could also be split in two, doubling as two quarter pipes , or set up as a wall ride , basically endless possibilities.
- Bump to Rail, Wedge Ramps, Small Kickers and Manny Pad: A couple of extra obstacles from our standard line-up that could be switched in and out of the park for even more variety.
As with every WA Skate Ramps job, each and every component of this park was manufactured to precision in our factory using high quality materials built to handle relentless punishment. When it came time to install, we hit the ground running. Long days & Late nights … No Problem! Our team did what it took to make sure the park was ready for Skateboarding WA’s holiday clinics, and the result was a compact versatile indoor park that flows, giving skaters a new indoor home to shred, progress, and connect.
This isn’t just a skatepark, it’s a lifeline for the local skateboarding community. Skateboarding WA’s new training facility is proof that even when the world throws down a challenge, skaters will step up and build something better.
The park is a win, providing a spot for Skateboarding WA to continue helping skaters progress, connect, and thrive. From kids finding their footing to seasoned shredders and coaches throwing down heavy tricks, it’s a park that has something for everyone… and Skateboarding WA continue to “Let the good times roll.”
